TWO female circumcision surgeons have gone into hiding after the Police summoned them for allegedly using one knife to circumcise 40 women.

Kapchorwa Police said they wanted to educate Rhoda Kokop and Sawiya Sanani on the dangers of using one knife to circumcise many candidates.
They said using one knife exposes the candidates to the risk of contracting HIV.

"The law, however, is not clear on the act," said Joseph Chelogoi, a Police officer.

Beatrice Chelangat, a health official, said about 150 girls had undergone the ritual since the beginning of December.

She however added that over 400 girls had been saved from the knife through sensitisation and counseling.

Chelangat also appealed to parents to stop forcing their daughters into the act.
