ERITREA: Efforts to Do Away With Female Circumcision Show Encouraging Outcome
The Minister of Health, Mr. Saleh Meki, said that the efforts being made to do away with female circumcision are showing encouraging outcomes.
Speaking at the Anti-female Circumcision Day in Shebah on February 6, Mr. Saleh pointed out that the decision taken to abolish this harmful and backward practice it is a positive step towards ensuring the health of mothers.
Over 500 people including different department heads, Administrators, religious leaders and representatives of the public took part in the event, during which it was disclosed that the practice does not have religious or psychological support.
The Administrator of Ginda sub-zone, Ms. Amna Haj Osman, noted that eliminating this backward practice is contributing to enhance the health of women and children and that the task is the responsibility of every citizen.
