UGANDA: Museveni Speaks Out On Genital Mutilation
The equal opportunities committee of Parliament a year ago asked the Government to build model schools, where vulnerable girls will be kept during school days and holidays, until they are of age to resist the practice. The practice is common among the Sabiny and Karimojong.
Girls studying outside the region but belong to these communities will also spend their vacation in the schools. This would also detach uncompromising parents from their daughters, he said.
Museveni promised to avail a radio and television station to the region to promote their programmes.
The President also said the Government would provide the region with seven combine harvesters to help them in wheat growing.
Museveni promised to build hospitals and provide ambulances for Kween and Bukeo. He instructed that the two districts be provided with Police patrol cars.
The President said a UPDF battalion would be deployed to handle the Kenyan Pokot cattle raiders.
He also promised that Government would resettle the people who were displaced from the national park.
Flanked by the NRM deputy secretary general, Dorothy Hyuha, Museveni urged the people to vote for him and other party flag-bearers.
He said the NRM was the only party with the capacity to manage the affairs of Uganda effectively.
Museveni said Prosperity-for All-programmes had been revamped.
